December 15th, 2025
Mr. Bodaken:
I chose The University of Baltimore because it has a reputation for supporting working adults and nontraditional students like me, with flexible options and faculty who understand the needs of professionals transitioning into new careers. UBalt is helping me gain the skills I need to move into case management and leadership roles. I was also drawn to its strong ties to the Baltimore community, which means I can learn, grow and give back in the city where I’ve built my life and career.
My motivation for pursuing this major:
My motivation for pursuing a degree in business administration comes from my desire to expand my skills and open new career opportunities beyond my current role. With nearly two decades of experience as a correctional officer, I want to transition into leadership and case management positions where I can make a greater impact. My goal is to support individuals in their rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society. Studying business administration provides me with the knowledge and tools to manage teams, understand organizational dynamics and support people effectively.
About me:
I was born and raised in Baltimore and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School. I earned my associate degree in business administration from the Community College of Baltimore County. I come from a close-knit family that has always encouraged hard work and education. Their support has driven me to pursue my goals and strive for success in everything I do.
As a correctional officer, I have dedicated 19 years to maintaining safety and security within a correctional facility while treating individuals with dignity and respect. My role has required strong communication skills, sound judgment under pressure, and the ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally. Recently, I was promoted to the rank of sergeant, a position that has allowed me to mentor new officers and take on greater leadership responsibilities.
This career has taught me the importance of accountability, teamwork, and empathy, and it has inspired me to further my education so I can continue making a positive impact in my community. In my free time, I enjoy reading, exploring nature, and staying active through swimming and fitness.
My message to the David Reznick Foundation:
I want to sincerely thank the David Reznick Foundation for the generous support. This scholarship means more to me than just financial help—it gives me hope and encouragement to keep pushing forward. Knowing that someone believes in my potential makes a huge difference as I balance school, work and family. Your kindness inspires me to work even harder to achieve my goals and give back to my community. I’m truly grateful for your investment in my future and for helping make my dreams more attainable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
